Evaluation

Evaluation of Preliminary Task

In a whole, i believe that our Preliminary task went very well considering the fact that me and my group do not have any experience in this area and although there was some unnecessary mistakes.

For example, our cameraman did not keep an eye on the spirit level of the camera, as a result of this, the camera is slightly slanted in the first scene, but this is nothing drastic.

Nevertheless, we managed to film all of the shots we needed to which were:

  • Match On Action
  • Shot Reverse Shot
  • 180 degree rule

What did i learn?

By doing my preliminary task i have learnt a whole new range of skills, for example, i learnt how to properly include a match on action shot and and shot reverse shot in a film, i also learnt how to properly stick to the 180 degree rule, and i learnt the importance of this rule.
Even though i was acting in the preliminary task, i gained a better understanding of a camera and he different camera angles and shots

Location of Preliminary

This is the location we have decided to use for our preliminary task. we chose this location because it has good lighting and is also very accessible. There are no windows in this room so it creates a very intense scene, this will benefit our preliminary task because it fits our genre very well.

Ideas for our preliminary task

These are all the ideas that me and my group came up with for our preliminary task.

Final Idea
For our final idea, me and my group have decided to do a deal between two different characters, which will involve and exchange of a bag/briefcase which would contain money.

What must i do for the preliminary task?

The preliminary task includes filming and editing. It must have:
  • A character entering the room (through the door)
  • He then continues to walk across the room
  • There are two characters in the room who both sit opposite to each other
  • Then the characters converse for a few minutes
In the preliminary task you must include a few editing skills, such as:
  • Match on action
  • 180 degree rule
  • Shot reverse shot
Match on Action
Match on action is an editing technique where the shot cuts to another shot whilst the same character is still doing the same action.
Here is an example:

Shot Reverse Shot

Shot reverse shot is an editing technique where you are looking over the shoulder of a character and you can see his point of view of another character or and object. The point of view then switches to the other characters point of view, but in the same shot.

Here is an example:

180 degree rule

The final technique is the 180 degree rule. this shot shows the position of two characters, the two characters will then be filmed standing on a straight line, so the camera cannot move past that line because it will then look like the characters are standing in different positions.

Here is an example:
